VeloFlow

Is there a free debt payoff calculator that doesn't need my bank login?

Yes. VeloFlow's free debt payoff calculator at velo-flow.io/debt-payoff-calculator needs no bank login and no sign-up: you type in each debt's balance, APR and minimum, and it runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent or stored. It compares the avalanche method, the snowball method and minimums only, showing a debt-free date, total interest, total paid and payoff order for each.

Written for VeloFlow by Partner Up Marketing Group, its marketing agency. VeloFlow is a tracker, not a bank or adviser — nothing here is financial advice.

What you type in, and what you get back

The debt payoff calculator takes up to 10 debts. For each one: the balance, the APR and the minimum payment. Then one more figure, an extra amount per month, if there is one.

For three approaches side by side (Avalanche, Snowball and minimums only) it shows a debt-free date, the total interest, the total paid and the order the debts are paid off in.

Why it needs no bank login

The calculator works only from what is typed into it. It runs in the browser, nothing typed is sent or stored, and there is no account to create. Seeing a payoff order does not require handing over bank credentials.

It uses the same engine as the Payoff screen in the VeloFlow app. VeloFlow is a personal finance tracker with read-only bank access through Plaid, and linking an account in the app is optional. The app is at /get.

Avalanche, snowball and the trade between them

Avalanche puts any extra on the highest interest rate first, and usually costs less interest. Snowball puts it on the smallest balance first, and usually clears a first debt sooner. In both, a paid-off debt's payment rolls into the next one.

The calculator's example debts show the trade: a credit card of $7,500 at 24.99% ($225 minimum), a medical bill of $1,200 at 0% ($50), a car loan of $12,000 at 6.9% ($300) and a store card of $2,400 at 29.99% ($72), plus $250 extra a month. With those, avalanche costs $393 less interest than snowball, both finish in 2 years 7 months, and snowball clears its first debt sooner (month 4 against month 9). Which matters more is the user's choice; the calculator does not recommend one.
